Primary only
Spam never rings.
Unknown numbers are filed in Spam with no notification. Contacts and numbers you approve open in Primary, and those are the alerts you actually get.
Android SMS, with a quieter default
TextMoat keeps people you know in Primary and files everyone else in Spam. Prize scams, political pitches, and bulk marketing stay off the lock screen.
Unknown-number filtering, always free. Premium is $9.99 a month. Android 8.0 and newer.
Live inbox
01 — Try it
This preview runs the Premium filter: contacts first, then keywords, campaign language, bulk opt-outs, prize scams, and a quiet default for strangers. The free app files every stranger in Spam, except login codes.
Real conversations land here.
Scams and strangers wait here.
02 — Features
Filtering is the point. Sending, pictures, groups, and the small daily gestures are all here too.
Primary only
Unknown numbers are filed in Spam with no notification. Contacts and numbers you approve open in Primary, and those are the alerts you actually get.
Verification codes
Login texts get a copy action on the notification and again in the inbox, so the code is on the clipboard before the app is open.
Notifications
Answer from the notification shade, or mark the thread read and move on. Muted chats stay muted.
Inside a conversation
Find a word and see it highlighted. Share or forward a message. Phone numbers, email addresses, and links open the right app. A segment counter shows how a long text will send, and delivery status moves from sent to delivered.
Pictures and groups
Send a picture message, start a group text, and call a one-to-one chat from the conversation. Your existing messages import when TextMoat becomes the default SMS app.
Your rules
Blocked numbers always go to Spam, silently. A keyword you add does the same. Mark a thread “Not spam” and that sender is approved. Mark it spam and they stay blocked.
On the phone
Messages are classified on the device and stored in a local database. TextMoat does not sell SMS data and does not show ads. No analytics network rides along.
Everyday inbox
Long-press a conversation for the things a real inbox needs. Drafts show up in green so an unfinished reply is easy to find.
03 — Setup
Filtering works when TextMoat is the default. Your current messages import onto the phone as part of that handoff.
Contacts tell TextMoat who already belongs in your life. Those threads open in Primary, with a notification.
Everyone else starts in Spam. Open that inbox whenever you want. Approve a sender and their next text comes through loud and clear.
TextMoat receives SMS and picture messages. RCS chats inside Google Messages stay in Google Messages, because Google does not share that network. Turn RCS chats off and those conversations arrive as regular texts and photos.
05 — Questions
On your phone. Classification happens on the device. A local database holds the threads. Your messages and allowlist stay on the phone.
Open the Spam inbox and mark the thread “Not spam.” That sender is approved, and later messages arrive in Primary with a notification. With Premium, a plain human text can also reach Primary on its own when it reads like a conversation.
Picture messages sent as MMS arrive in TextMoat. RCS chats, the Chat bubbles in Google Messages, stay in Google Messages. Turning RCS chats off lets those conversations come through as SMS and photos.
Unknown-number filtering, always free. Premium adds scam, political, and marketing pattern filters. The product in Google Play is premium_monthly at $9.99 a month.
TextMoat
Set TextMoat as your default SMS app. The rest of the noise can wait in Spam.
